Life story
Walther Ewert was born in the Zalesie close to Posen (today Posna in Poland), after the ended school he volonteered to the Reichwehr (100 000 army), He served in an ordinary army unit  until year 1925, when he attended the "Heeresfeuerwerkerschule" in Jüterbog. Aftert finishing this course he served in the Reichwehr until 1934, when he was attached to the Reichwehrministerium.

When Sepp Dietrich oversaw the construction of the SS-VT (Vefügungstruppen) he wanted Ewert in his unit and convinced him to join the LSSAH, in wich he became 1b of the Battalion, This position did Walther Ewert held during the growth of the LSSAH, from Regiment, to Division, Korps and finally Armee. His final service was a SS-Oberführer and Qberquartiermeister of the 6.SS-Pz.Armee.

As it´s Oberquartiermeister it was his duty to see that the men of the 6.SS-Pz.Armee, had its amunition, guns, trucks, food, clothes etc. Not a easy task in the last year of the war. Walther Ewert held his mission to the highest level, not rarely did the men of the 6.SS-Pz.Armee see Walther on his B-krad (MC) to see that the supplies was delievered, often during those rides with the MC he often, with his own life in danger, resqued wounded soldiers so the could get back to the calmer lines and get medical attention.

For his splendid work wich he without any pauses continued to the end of the warm he was awarded the Ritterkreuz zum Kriegsverdienstkreuz mit schwerten.

When he surrendered to the US forces in May 1945, he was soon handed over to the UK Forces, and there he remained as a POW until 1947 when he was released and returned to Germany.

After the war he was working in the Industry. When the HIAG established in the 50s Walther Ewert was one of the first to join the organisation. Between 1953-1959 he was the first chairman of the HIAG Schweinfurt, the Veteranorganisation "Kameradschaftsverband des I SS-Pz.Korps" was he part of since the beginning. He was also one of the men who managed that the 1.SS-Pz.Korps got their memorial in Marienfels. He also was the "1.SS-Pz.Korps"chairman between 1970 and 1972.

He was a regular visitor to different meetings around Germany, Austria, Südtirol (Ita) and Belgium.

Walther Ewert died in Keilberg 1976, 72 years old.
