He was born on April 7, 192 in Wangerin, Pomerania. From September 1, 1933 to April 15, 1940, he was a member of the Hitlerjungend.
He enrolled in the SS (No. 475 313) on April 15, 1940 and the NSDAP (No. 8,669,856) on September 1, 1941. He was assigned to the 1st SS Totenkopf Reiter Regiment. In November 1940, he served in the 3rd company of this regiment. In June 1941, this regiment became the 1st Regiment of the 8th SS Kavallerie Division "Florian Geyer". He left the front in February 1942 to train as a sous officer in Poland. He was promoted to unterscharf-hrer on 20 April 1942. In September 1942, he returned to the division and was appointed section chief of the 3rd company of the 1st Regiment in April 1943. He was awarded the 1st Class Iron Cross on 1 December 1942 and was promoted to Oberscharfihrer on 11 March 1943. From June 21 to December 18, 1943, he attended the SS Officer School in Braunschweig. From December 1943 to April 11, 1944, he trained with an SS replacement and training cavalry regiment. He was promoted to untersturmfihrer on 1 March 1944. From April 11 to June 1, 1944, he served again in the Florian Geyer. On June 1, 1944, he was appointed "Warrant Officer" (Assistant Officer) to the leader of the 53rd Regiment of the 22nd SS Division "Maria Theresia". He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on 17 January 1945, was promoted to Obersturmfihrer on 30 January 1945 and received the German Golden Cross on 6 February 1945. Seriously injured during the siege of Budapest in January 1945, he probably succumbed to his injuries in the city in February 1945.
